Privacy Policy

Chilltacular (“the app”, “we”) is built by LittleBlueBug, LLC. This page describes what data the app collects, why, and how to have it removed. Plain language — no dark patterns, no third-party advertising, no tracking.

Your library

Your tracked movies, shows, books, and games — with their collections, favorites, notes, ratings, and statuses — live in three places:

  • On your device, where the app works even offline.
  • In your private iCloud account. Apple’s CloudKit syncs your library between your own devices. That storage belongs to your Apple account, not to us.
  • On our server (api.chilltacular.com). The app also syncs a copy of your library to us — collection names, item titles and metadata, status, rating, favorite flag, and your notes — tied to a pseudonymous account identifier. This is what powers the features iCloud can’t: release-date and news awareness for the things you track, and recommendations seeded from what you’ve finished and favorited.

What our server sees

Beyond the library sync above, when your app talks to our server it receives:

  • An account identifier — your iCloud user record name (a pseudonymous string Apple gives us; not your name or email) so your data follows you between your devices.
  • A per-install device identifier — a random UUID generated on your device the first time the app launches. Used to tell your iPhone, iPad, and Mac apart when you run on multiple.
  • Diagnostics about the device — app version + build, OS version, hardware model, locale, time zone, and whether your iCloud account is available. Used to debug crashes and version-specific issues and to know what platforms our users are on.
  • The request itself — the URL and parameters of the call, the request body, the response status, and your IP address (standard web-server logging).
  • Searches and shared links — the titles you search for, and any web page URL you send to the app via the share sheet so we can identify the movie / show / book / game it refers to.
  • Help & Feedback content — when you open a conversation in Help & Feedback, the message text and anything you choose to attach: photos or videos you pick, a screenshot of the app, or the app’s diagnostic log (you control log verbosity in Settings, including turning it off entirely). Reports also carry the app version and device model they were sent from.
  • Purchase status, if you subscribe to Premium — Apple handles all billing; we never see your payment details. The app reports your subscription status, the product purchased, its expiry date, and Apple’s transaction identifier so Premium unlocks on all your devices.

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, photo library, calendar, location, or any data from other apps.

Contacts

If you share collections with friends, the app can — only after you tap the button that asks — use read-only Contacts access to show their photos next to their names. The matching happens entirely on your device. Your contact list is never uploaded to our servers. The small matched photos sync only through your own private iCloud so your other devices can show them too, and you can turn that off in Settings.

Notifications

The app registers with Apple for silent push notifications that tell it when your iCloud data changed, so sync feels instant. That device token goes only to Apple — we never receive or store it.

How it’s used

  • App functionality — making the features work (search, sync, awareness, recommendations, news, support, Premium).
  • Diagnostics — debugging crashes, regressions, and version-specific bugs across the device fleet.
  • Aggregate analytics — counts of active users by version, platform, and region. No individual profiling, no behavioral advertising.

What we do not do

  • No tracking in Apple’s sense. We do not link your activity to data from other companies’ apps or websites, and we do not share data with data brokers or ad networks. The App Tracking Transparency prompt is not shown because we have nothing to ask permission for.
  • No third-party analytics SDKs — no Google Analytics, no Firebase, no Mixpanel, no Amplitude, no Segment.
  • No advertising.
  • No selling of data. Ever.

Third-party services we query

To find and describe the things you track, our server forwards search text and item titles — never your identifier, IP address, or device details — to: TMDB (movies / TV), IGDB / Twitch (games), Hardcover, Google Books, and Open Library (books), the New York Times Books API, Brave Search and Google Custom Search (news lookups), and Anthropic (fallback search and recommendations). These providers have their own privacy policies governing those queries.

Two things reach third parties directly from your device: artwork (posters, covers, trailer thumbnails) loads from the providers’ image servers, so those servers see your IP address the same way any website does; and trailers open in your browser or the YouTube app rather than playing inside Chilltacular.

Sharing with other people

When you share a collection with another person, that shared content syncs through Apple’s iCloud Sharing — the recipient and the people you choose see what you share, along with your iCloud sharing identity (the name Apple shows share participants). One note: the invitation link itself embeds the collection’s name so the invite page can greet your friend properly, so treat the link like anything else you’d send them.

Retention

Operational logs (request URLs, IP, diagnostics) are retained indefinitely while your account is active so we can diagnose long-running issues. Help & Feedback conversations are retained until you delete them or your account is removed.

Deleting your data

To delete the server-side copy of your data (library sync, logs, device records, recommendations, feedback conversations), ask from inside the app: Help & Feedback → New Conversation, and say you want your data deleted — the request automatically carries the account identifier we need. You can also email support@chilltacular.com, though matching an email to a pseudonymous account may require a little back-and-forth. We will confirm deletion within 30 days.

To delete the iCloud-synced data (your tracked items and collections), delete the app from your devices and remove “Chilltacular” from Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage on iPhone/iPad, or System Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage on Mac. Apple controls this storage, not us.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

If we change what we collect or how we use it, we will update this page and bump the “Last updated” date at the top. Material changes will also be surfaced in the app.
